What it generally cannot do is specialist-level evaluation, advanced imaging on the spot, or surgical assessment. Expecting those in a fifteen-minute visit sets the visit up to disappoint.
The most productive version of the appointment is narrow: one clear symptom description, one request, and a question about what you should leave with.
If you are told to come back if it worsens, ask what specifically would count as worse. A named threshold makes the return visit easier to justify, to them and to yourself.
