Zarah KhondokerJanuary 30, 20268 min readThe delay is usually described as a single number of years. It is more accurately a sequence: symptoms normalized at home, then at a first appointment, then a treatment trial that partly works, then a referral that never gets completed.
Each link is individually defensible. Together they produce a delay nobody chose and nobody owns.
Two links respond well to navigation. The first is translation: arriving with a symptom history organized the way clinicians assess it. The second is completion: making sure the referral that was issued actually turns into a visit that happened.
Neither requires new medicine. Both require someone whose job is to notice when the next step did not happen.
